FAMILY AND PARTNER VISAS

Onshore applicants

These are the current Partner Visas subclasses:

  • Subclass 820 (temporal).
  • Subclass 801 (permanent).

This visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia temporarily. Getting this visa is the first step towards a permanent Partner visa (subclass 801).

  • Be in a genuine relationship with an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • Be in Australia  while applying. Family who apply with the applicant must also be in Australia

These are the current Partner Visas subclasses:

You apply for the temporary and the permanent partner visas together.

Applicants must:

Prospective Marriage visa (Subclass 300)

This visa lets you come to Australia to marry your prospective spouse and then apply for a Partner visa.

Applicants must:

  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Have met face to face with prospective spuse
  • Be sponsored
  • Intend to marry your prospective spouse before the visa period ends

BUSINESS & VISITOR VISAS

As a genuine visitor in Australia, you can:
  • Visit friends and family, cruise or have a holiday
  • Stay in Australia for medical purposes
  • You can make a short visit for business visitor reasons, but you can’t work or sell goods or services
  • Study or train up to 3 months (in some circumstances)
  • Stay in Australia as a tourist for People’s Republic of China citizens from certain areas visiting Australia on a tour organised by an approved travel agent
There are two visas sub classes and different streams within each visa:
Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) with the following streams:
  • Tourist stream (in or outside Australia)
  • Sponsored family stream
  • Business visitor stream
For People’s Republic of China citizens (from certain areas) there are two streams:
  • Approved destination status stream
  • Frequent traveller stream
e Visitor (Subclass 651)
You must apply from outside Australia and hold a passport from a particular country and you can:
  • Visit Australia as often as you wish in a 12-month period.
  • Stay up to 3 months each time you enter Australia
BASIC ELIGIBILITYy
  • Depending on the subclass and stream, you must:
  • Be a genuine visitor
  • Intend to stay in Australia to visit only
  • Have enough money for your stay and leave
  • Not work in Australia
  • Meet some medical and character requirements
  • Pay your visa application fees
